Did KCR pull a fast one? Doc stirs up a hornet’s nest Marthi Subrahmanyam

Must read

A Khammam-based cardiologist, who treated Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao when the latter staged an indefinite fast here at the height of Telangana agitation, on Sunday stirred up a hornet’s nest even as the BRS is preparing to celebrate the Diksha Divas on November 29 and the State is going to polls on Nov 30 by making public the treatment given to KCR then and alleged that the fast KCR had undertaken was fake.
Addressing media at the CPI office, along with senior CPI leader K Narayana, cardiologist Dr Gopinadh, refuted the allegations made by BRS leaders like KTR and Kavita that KCR had achieved Telangana by entering the portals of death and claimed that he had clinched evidence of how KCR survived on fluids given to him.
He spoke about the line of treatment given to KCR but did not give evidence of the regimen of medicines given to KCR to media, but offered to make it public at an “opportune time”. The cardiologist alone knows when the “opportune time” comes.
The “bomb” triggered by the cardiologist is sending shockwaves through the BRS camp. The BRS, which is gearing up to celebrate Diksha Divas, was left shaken by the statement of the doctor. The then Congress MP from Vijayawada, Lagadapati Rajagopal, explained before media scientifically how anyone can undertake fast without food and called the fast undertaken by KCR fake.
Afterwards, statehood to Telangana was granted. As a token of gratitude, KCR along with his family called on Sonia Gandhi at her residence in Delhi and thanked her.
KCR’s fast resurfaced after a decade and soon the issue was on everyone’s lips. As the doctor’s statement is questioning the sincerity of KCR, Khammam hogged the attention of all. Dr Gopinadh was the doctor who took care of KCR’s health then. His allegations became viral on media, including social media.
He made a revelation alleging that KCR used fluids during the course of his indefinite fast. He also flashed the related medical documents to the media. KCR got Dr Gopinadh appointed as his personal doctor after speaking to the then District Collector Usha Rani.
Dr Gopinadh said, “We (a team led by him) administered fluids at night to KCR during his nine-day stir in Khammam.. All kinds of fluids were given to him.” Unable to bear with KCR’s false claim that he had achieved Telangana State by entering the portals of death, Dr Gopinadh claimed to have revealed the secret behind the fast.
It is yet to be known why the doctor chose to reveal the secret after 11 years of the fast. During the interregnum, two Assembly elections and many by-elections including the Munugode by-polls were held.  At all these polls, KCR claimed that he braved death to get statehood to Telangana.  But the doctor did not make public the fluid story behind KCR’s fast.
