Taking advantage of the price variation of diesel at Rs 10 per litre of diesel, several unscrupulous traders are smuggling diesel from Karnataka into Telangana without proper bills and earning crores of rupees. The illegal activity has gone unchecked for the past several months from Bandameedipalli in the town and an agricultural field in Allipur apparently with the blessings of a police officer working in police headquarters here.
The unscrupulous traders earned Rs 2 lakh for a tanker with a capacity of 20,000 litres and Rs 1,20,000 per tanker with a 12,000 litre capacity tanker. At least 15-20 trips were conducted every month greasing the palms of some higher authorities in the district.
On Saturday, journalists at Jadcherla stopped a 12,000-litre diesel tanker that was smuggling diesel from Raichur in Karnataka and selling diesel to petrol stations in the town.
District Superintendent of Police Kottapalli Narasimha Goud took a serious view of the case. The investigation is on.
