Unlike the past Telangana politics is now centred in Bengaluru. Karnataka PCC President Deputy Chief Minister DK Shiv Kumar is acting as the unofficial in-charge of Telangana Congress. AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge also hails from Karnataka.
Earlier, Telangana Congress leaders used to go to New Delhi to meet the high command for everything. But now the Congress high command has asked Shiv Kumar to look after Telangana party affairs.
DK is playing a key role in sorting out differences among Telangana Congress leaders and in deciding new inductions into the party. The Congress registered a historic victory in the Karnataka Assembly elections under the leadership of Shiv Kumar.
Former AICC president Sonia Gandhi has become inactive and Rahul Gandhi and AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi are not getting themselves involved in party affairs in any state. So in the changed political circumstances, Bengaluru has become the centre of the Telangana Congress.
Despite having the credit of carving out Telangana state as per the wishes of the people the Congress could not come to power in the last two Assembly elections. The Congress high command thinks that this time the party has a good chance of coming to power in the Telangana Assembly elections.
The Congress high command thinks that a leader like Shiv Kumar can set right the Telangana Congress by resolving disputes and uniting all senior leaders to take on the BRS.
Meanwhile, two days ago TPCC President Revanth Reddy met Shiv Kumar in Bengaluru and discussed Telangana party affairs.
They also discussed admitting former MP Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, former minister Jupalli Krishna Rao and others into the party.
Shiv Kumar is going to play a key role in the selection of party candidates, preparing the party’s election manifesto and in all other important issues also. It means that the Congress is going to fight the next Telangana Assembly elections as per the directions of Shiv Kumar.
