A massive rally aimed at raising awareness about the harmful effects of drugs was organised here on Saturday by the NCC wing of SV University in collaboration with the local police department. The procession commenced from the SV University administrative building and concluded at NRT Circle.
The rally was inaugurated by SP L Subba Rayudu, SV University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Appa Rao, and Registrar Bhupati Naidu. Addressing the crowd, the District SP highlighted that drug abuse is one of the most pressing issues currently facing the nation. In response, the Central Government has launched the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” programme, with the goal of eradicating drug addiction.
Under the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan”, NSS students and the police department have jointly organised this rally, aiming for a drug-free Andhra Pradesh, drug-free Tirupati, and drug-free SVU.
“The purpose of this rally is to educate people about the consequences of drug abuse and to work towards eliminating drug use in Tirupati district,” the SP clarified.
The state government has already issued directives to address the narcotics issue with utmost seriousness and has established an anti-drugs special task force in each district.
“In line with this, we have formed a special task force led by a Circle Inspector in the district. Our team is actively involved in seizing cannabis and other drugs on a daily basis. We are committed to combating the drug menace,” the SP emphasised.
He also stressed the importance of support from youth, students, and the media in tackling drug-related issues. The SP warned that the PD Act would be invoked against individuals who repeatedly engage in drug trafficking. Additional SP Venkata Rao and other officials were present at the event.
