City Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, along with Deputy Mayor Srilata Shobhan Reddy inaugurated the Food Safety on Wheels mobile van set up under Food Safety Standard Authority of India for continuous monitoring of adulteration of daily food items at the GHMC headquarters.
Speaking on this occasion, Mayor Vijayalakshmi said that as part of `Eat Right’, the Food Safety Controller and Food Safety Officer concerned in all circles of the GHMC will carry out inspections through these mobile vans to check the quality of daily food items and prevent adulteration and take appropriate action against them from time to time.
The mobile van is equipped with digital balance, digital multi-parameter, hand millimeter (pH conductivity, TDS, temperature), digital refacto meter portable, hot plate, hot air oven, rapid milk skimming equipment and mixer grinder. She said that there will be equipment; there will be food storage, food safety officer, lab technician and a lab assistant.
The officials will inspect the related ingredients used by street vendors, fast food centres, hotels, restaurants, oils, baking powder, cornflex, spices, jaggery, sugar, artificial sweets, tomato sauce, pickles, tea powder, chocolates, iodised salt, biscuits, food colour, mineral water, silver leaves, canned foods, gelatin, instant coffee mixture, bread, cakes, pastry, vinegar, synthetic vinegar, flours, baking soda, carbonated water and other food stuffs.
Deputy Mayor Srilata Shobhan Reddy said that everyone should use only healthy ingredients for food safety. She said that the details of inspection of food items should be given daily. She said that the food safety officials should first identify the areas where food adulteration is taking place and focus on those areas and work sincerely to provide unadulterated food to the people.
