ED gets 5-day custody of Abhishek, Vijay Nair

A Delhi court on Monday sent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) communication in-charge Vijay Nair and businessman Abhishek Boinpally to five days of ED custody in a money laundering case connected to the Delhi excise scam.

But the court granted them bail in another connected corruption case being probed by the CBI. Special Judge MK Nagpal allowed the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) application seeking custody of the two accused after the agency said they have to be interrogated to unearth the larger conspiracy and the money trail. The anti-money laundering agency said the suspects have to be confronted with witnesses and documents.

The ED has carried out 169 searches in this case so far and has arrested many top executives, including the promoter of liquor company Indospirit, the general manager of the liquor company and the whole-time director and promoter of Aurobindo Pharma.

In the CBI case connected to irregularities in the Delhi government’s now-scrapped excise policy, the court granted bail to the duo on personal bonds of Rs 2 lakh each and a surety of the same amount.
