Eluru district has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2023’. The Government introduced this scheme to acknowledge and reward exemplary work by civil servants across the country.
For 2023, the scheme was revised to recognise the contributions of civil servants in the holistic development of districts under various government schemes. The award honours the efforts of those working to implement the welfare programmes of both the State and Central Governments effectively.
The then District Collector, V. Prasanna Venkatesh, played a key role in the development of Eluru, which was created after the bifurcation of the combined West Godavari district. Venkatesh, during his two-year tenure, earned widespread appreciation for his efficient administration and dedication to public welfare.
Under his leadership, welfare initiatives like ‘Akshaja’ were implemented, focusing on the health of pregnant women and children in agency mandals. His efforts in good governance contributed to Eluru’s special recognition among the 788 districts in India. Eluru was selected as one of the 16 districts in the country to receive the award, thanks to the diligent efforts of former Collector V. Prasanna Venkatesh.
