Energy Minister Peddireddy Ramchandra Reddy launched the AP Power Utilities Diary-2023 during the third anniversary celebrations of the Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Corporation Limited here on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, the minister expressed happiness that the energy sector was responsible for the development of every sector and the awards achieved by them were proof. He said that the Power Department was working in accordance with the aspirations of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to further strengthen the power sector. The State government was giving utmost priority to the power sector. The power sector contributes economically to agricultural, industrial progress and the GDP. He said that the State would make economic and industrial progress only if the power companies in the public sector developed.
He said that the State government was providing high quality, cheap and uninterrupted electricity to people, farmers and industries. Free electricity was being supplied to the agricultural sector in the State for nine hours during the day. He said that free electricity would help to increase agricultural yields and thereby increase the income of farmers. Around 66,000 aqua farmers were being supplied with electricity at just Rs 1.50 per unit. Free electricity was being provided to 18,65,000 SC and ST people in the State. Discoms had been directed to immediately look into the pending applications for agricultural electricity connections and take steps to provide connections quickly.
