District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad has urged officials from various departments to ensure the successful execution of Swachhata Hi-2024 programmes, organised by Swachh Andhra Corporation under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Speaking during a district steering committee meeting at the collectorate on Friday morning, he emphasised the need for thorough preparations by September 13, ahead of the district-level programmes scheduled to begin on September 17.
“The Swachhata Hi-2024 programmes will be conducted from September 17 to October 2, and it is crucial that all departments are well-prepared to ensure their success,” said the Collector. “The initiatives are based on three primary pillars: Swachhta Ki Bhagidari, Sampurna Swachhta, and Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs.”
“We are calling on citizens to participate actively, including in sapling plantation drives to honour mothers, and to raise awareness about important issues like energy conservation, water saving, plastic waste reduction, and healthy lifestyles,” he said.
The Collector instructed officials to identify littered areas and organise special drives to clean public spaces, including roads, government and private offices, parks, and drains. “We will be utilising drones for monitoring cleanliness, and special efforts will be made to beautify public areas and educational institutions,” he added.
The Education Department will conduct quiz competitions to raise awareness among students about hygiene, with a focus on handwashing at Anganwadi centers. The Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs pillar will focus on the welfare of sanitation workers, with medical check-ups and special health camps planned. “We must prioritise the health and safety of our sanitation workers, and provide them with necessary medical services, nutrition distribution, and vaccination drives,” said the Collector.
Harendhira Prasad concluded by emphasising the importance of involving local communities and public representatives in cleanliness drives across mandals, GVMC areas, and constituencies. “The grand closing ceremony on October 2, marking Swachh Bharat Diwas, will require full cooperation from all departments to ensure its success,” he said.
