West Godavari District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani has directed the managements of industries to take steps to ensure that no industrial mishap takes place in the district.
The Collector held a meeting with the management of industries and reviewed the measures taken to prevent mishaps in industries. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that out of 53 industries in the district, two industries were registered under ‘A’ category and 51 industries were registered under ‘B’ category.
Six of these chemical industries have been identified as the most dangerous which included Tanuku Jayalakshmi Fertilizers, Tanuku The Andhra Sugars, Van Barri Limited in K. Illindalaparru village of Iragavaram mandal, Paidiparru Plots Tech Labs Limited in Tanuku mandal, Mallikharjun Chemicals Private Limited in Jakkaram village in Kalla mandal, Aspirin Plant in Tanuku Andhra Sugar Limited.
Apart from the most dangerous industries, the rest of the industry should also be inspected according to the fixed schedule and the deficiencies should be reported to the respective owners. The management of the industries must follow the safety protocols and educate the workers by imparting training on safety.
“The officials of the fire department should conduct a mock drill in the industries and create awareness to the workers at the field level. Several major accidents have occurred in the factories of the state in the recent past, resulting in significant loss of life and property and causing deep concern among the industrialists and the general public. Incidents like this should be taken very seriously and immediate inspections should be conducted in all API manufacturing and some other chemical, petroleum and petrochemical factories in the district,” the Collector directed the officials concerned.
Inspections must be as per checklists and cover previously communicated guidelines. In addition to installing sensors to detect danger in industries, they should install CCTV cameras at dangerous units, the Collector said, asking them to organize a workshop on safety measures in industries and create awareness, the Collector stated.
Vijayawada Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories K Srinivasa Rao, Bhimavaram Inspector of Factories B Ramakrishna, district industrial officer M Mangapati Rao, APPBC EE Venkateswara and district Labour Officer A Lakshmi were among those who attended the meeting.
