Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MPs have appealed to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday, urging the deputation of special officers from the All-India Service (AIS) outside the state of Andhra Pradesh to ensure a flawless registration process for electoral rolls in the region.
Galla Jayadev, Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, and Kesineni Srinivas alias Nani conveyed their concerns during a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. In a letter submitted to the commissioner, they highlighted alleged non-compliance with ECI guidelines by District Election Officers (DEOs) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs). The MPs claimed that these officials faced undue pressure from the ruling party leaders, including Cabinet Ministers and MLAs. Furthermore, the Telugu Desam MPs alleged that the past 57 months witnessed the registration of approximately 6,000 false cases against senior TDP leaders, reflecting what they described as a tyrannical rule in the State. They asserted that politically vulnerable and inexperienced Sachivalayam staff members were appointed as Block Level Officers (BLOs), contending that these individuals were disrupting the revision process under the influence of local YSRCP leaders.
The MPs said that, despite the Election Commission’s instructions on May 29 of the current year, which directed the processing of all advanced applications received by October 1 to amalgamate corresponding entries in the draft rolls, the election machinery has yet to inquire about over 23 lakh applications.
