Amidst claims and counterclaims by political parties about victory, the fate of the candidates and the verdict of the Telugu people were sealed in the EVMs on Monday. Polling was held on Monday for the 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana and the 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh.
Candidates have to wait for 21 days to know the winner. The counting of votes will be taken up on June 4 and results will be declared on the same day.
In the Lok Sabha elections in Telangana, the main contest was between the Congress and the BJP. In Andhra Pradesh, in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the main fight was between the YSR Congress and the TDP alliance.
Candidates are now collecting details about the voting at the ground level from their party activists to assess their winning chances. There will not be any big political changes in Telangana due to the election results as polls were held only to the Lok Sabha.
But the situation in Andhra Pradesh is different as in AP elections were held to the Assembly also along with the Lok Sabha elections. Politics can change depending on the results of the Assembly election in Andhra Pradesh.
It appears that the ruling YSR Congress and the opposition alliance headed by the TDP are in a tight race in the Assembly elections. The YSR Congress is confident of retaining power. At the same time, the TDP is also confident about regaining its old glory.
In Telangana, major political parties like the Congress, the BJP and the BRS are confident about winning most of the LS seats. But whichever party may win the LS elections there will be no change in the state government.
However, the LS election results may bring about changes in the BRS in Telangana and in the TDP in Andhra Pradesh.
