Exporters not paying MSP for prawns

Prawns Farmers Welfare Federation district president Japati has deplored the attitude of exporters in not purchasing the marine products at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) announced by the government. Addressing an awareness meeting held here on Thursday, many farmers alleged that the traders were not coming forward to the bus at MSP.

“The 100 count prawns are not being bought by the traders at Rs 210 as announced by the government. If the sales continue to be lacklustre, we will announce a crop holiday,” he announced. State Aquaculture Development Authority vice chairman Vaddi Raghuram assured that by 15 days the government would announce the good news to the aqua farmers. He also promised to take steps to ensure that action would be taken against those who were not purchasing prawns at MSP announced by the government.

MP Mastan Rao said that their company BMR is providing quality feed at Rs 67 per KG. He said that the aqua market would flourish after the Sankranthi festival. District fisheries officer Ramalingachari, and Federation general secretary Gadiraju Subba Raju also spoke.
