Extra coaches arranged for 480 stranded students

The Vijayawada Railway Division has helped 480 stranded students bound for North-East and West Bengal, who participated in EMRS National Sports Meet at Vijayawada, by arranging five extra coaches in Amaravati Express.

Shivendra Mohan, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada Division, said that on receipt of representation from Andhra Pradesh Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (APTWREI), Commercial Department officials swiftly responded and coordinated with Operating Department, Zonal Headquarters for permission to provide the special coaches in Vijayawada. He further said that within 24 hours to help the stranded students, five additional coaches were mobilised from Narsapur and Vijayawada Coaching Depots by the Operating department, generated fresh Waiting List tickets for all the students and tickets were released through Emergency Quota by augmenting the quota of Vijayawada Division to provide confirmed accommodation for the students.

Shivendra Mohan said that 480 students who took part in the Ekalavya Model Residential Schools, National Sports Meet held in Vijayawada were stranded due to unconfirmed waiting list tickets in their return journey.

He said that three coaches were mobilised from Narsapur and the other two coaches were arranged from Vijayawada Depot to accommodate the students. He further said that a parcel van was also detached from the Amaravati Express formation at Vijayawada to support the cause and accommodate the five additional coaches in Vijayawada. He further said that after all 480 students boarded safely, the train was dispatched from the Vijayawada station.
