April 14 refreshes our memories about the most devastating fire and explosion that occurred on warship SS Fort Stikine of Royal Navy, Great Britain. To commemorate the sacrifice of the fire fighters, the Government of India decided to observe April 14 as Fire Services Day by all over the country.
The Fire Services Department is observing fire Services Week from April 14 to 29 and the department has conducted fire drills and first aid fire-fighting training programmes in high-rise buildings, malls and multiplexes, shopping complexes, industries, petrol pumps, LPG storage godowns, hospitals and educational institutions and fire prevention lectures and demonstrations are being held in residential apartments and colonies to highlight LPG safety, electrical Safety and careless smoking.
The following programmes have been taken up by Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department such as releasing posters by the Home Minister, homage to Marty’s of fire personnel at State Training School by the Director General, State Disaster Response and Fire Services, Hyderabad and at Fire Station, Secunderabad by Minister for Animal Husbandry.
Blood donation camps were conducted at various fire stations in the state, vehicle rally was held in the GHMC limits in around 60 kms distance from Hitex, Madhapur to Parade Grounds, Secunderabad.
A workshop was conducted on industrial fire safety at the fire station, Jeedimetla which was attended by the Minister for Labour and Director General, State Disaster Response and Fire Services, Hyderabad.
A workshop was conducted on hospital fire safety at Yashoda Hospital, Madhapur, which was attended by Director General, State Disaster Response and Fire Services and senior officers. The department has conducted 900 public awareness programmes and more than 70,000 citizens participated and gained fire fighting and fire prevention knowledge. They conducted a workshop on hotel fire safety at Taj Krishna Hotel which was attended by the Principal Secretary, Home and Director General, State Disaster Response and Fire Services.
