From scalpel to stars Dr Vineeth Ganganna’s journey from Orthopedics to IPS Who dreams to be an IPS

Must read

Generally, individuals have a dream they focus on alongside a few bucket-list goals in life. However, some go beyond pursuing a single profession, choosing instead to serve society and connect with people at a deeper level. One such individual is IPS officer but a doctor first – Dr Vineeth Ganganna, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Madhapur. Reflecting on his journey in an interview with The Pioneer’s Deepika Pasham, he shared: “It was always my priority to dedicate myself fully to my career, accepting whatever came my way. If not the UPSC, I would have been researching procedures in my specialty, Orthopedics, with AO.”
His life journey until 2024 stands as a testament to his commitment, adaptability and passion for making a difference, whether in public service or specialized medical research.

from childhood?
I have not believed in this concept of a dream since childhood. I have not had a dream of becoming an IPS officer. To have a simple question on little things in life, for instance hundreds of things go on in our head, it could be looking at a bus and thinking of becoming a driver, then to drive an auto, later a cinema actor and we grow up to become human accepting whatever comes our way.
Being an astronaut was
my desire
As I said, childhood dreams are meaningless. I always liked stars and wished that if I became an astronaut I could go around driving and come back. Then I felt I would not be able to drive that far, so let me study to become a pilot and drive among clouds. Later, we understand with the family background we have, like middle class, we may not achieve certain dreams.
Being a Telanganite
Dr Vineeth will also let you not know that he does not belong to Telangana. His Telugu is as fluent as one born in Hyderabad but still learning Hyderabadi Hindi and manages during Press meets. Do you feel that you are talking to a Telangana person? Nothing much. I keep talking to everybody that’s how I learnt. I also won the Union Home Ministry’s Trophy for proficiency in Telugu language.
In terms of food, non-veg is my favourite. I like to hang out or recommend the newcomers for Bawarchi biryani.
Mischievous child
I was born in Hassan, Karnataka. My father is a government employee and mother a homemaker. The mischievousness of my chilhood is not to be recalled. Those days we did not know the limit. I was a backbencher who was always pulled to be seated in the first bench. One day my teachers, upset with me, invited my parents to school to complain and I think that was the last incident my parents would recollect of my schooling.
