In an unexpected development, the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader from the Gajuwaka constituency, Tippala Devan Reddy, the son of party MLA Tippala Nagi Reddy, submitted his resignation from the party. Devan Reddy, who previously served as the in-charge of the YSRCP in the Gajuwaka constituency, played a key role in securing his father’s victory against Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan in 2019.
Political observers attribute this development to the uncertainty surrounding the ticket allocation for the Gajuwaka constituency, which appears bleak for Tippala Nagi Reddy. The perceived neglect of his political family by the party’s high command is said to be the reason behind Devan Reddy’s resignation.
As the 2024 general elections are nearing, the ruling YSRCP is scouting for candidates to uphold their influence in the Gajuwaka constituency and to challenge the Telugu Desam (TD) in Visakhapatnam West.
These constituencies hold strategic importance in the party’s electoral plans.
Meanwhile, Tippala Nagireddy is grappling with health issues. The party’s high command has notified him of his replacement with a new candidate.
To secure his political legacy, Nagireddy appealed to Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy to nominate his son, Devan Reddy. However, this request did not receive a positive response.
While specific reasons for Devan Reddy’s resignation remain unknown, insider sources confirm that the YSRCP’s high command is considering allocating the ticket from the Yadav community, which holds a substantial presence in the Gajuwaka constituency. This strategic move aims to counter opponents within the same community.
