Former Minister and Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar here on Friday warned that the government will face severe consequences for discriminating against Backward Classes (BC) communities and belittling them.
Speaking at a media conference held at his residence in Karimnagar, Gangula Kamalakar said that when the government promised to conduct a caste census, the BC community appreciated it. He stated that the Congress government, however, had been deceiving the people for the past 75 years, and even recently, they attempted to take them for a ride again. He pointed out that in states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, people from BC communities served as Chief Ministers, but neither Telangana nor Andhra Pradesh has had a BC Chief Minister to date, which he expressed as a matter of concern. He said the BC communities have been severely wronged and humiliated.
He recalled that in November 2021, the then Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had set up a BC Commission and a caste census survey was launched, but after the government changed, the process was halted. He clarified that the government had explicitly mentioned the caste census in Government Order No. 9. He also referred to the caste census conducted by the Bihar government, which was rejected by the High Court due to the lack of scientific methodology, and expressed concerns that the Telangana government would repeat the same mistake.
