The GHMC annual budget of Rs 7,937 crore for the financial year 2024-25 was approved by the GHMC council on Monday. The budget has increased by Rs 1,713 crore compared to the last financial year. Apart from Rs 7,937 crore budget, another Rs 500 crore has been allocated for housing scheme.
The GHMC council has passed a resolution regarding funds to GHMC. The GHMC general body resolved to appeal to the government to allocate Rs 3,492 crore in the State budget 2024-25 financial year.
Out of the total budget the revenue income of Rs 5,938 crore, the revenue expenditure is estimated at Rs 3,458 crore, revenue surplus is pegged at Rs 2,840 crore, capital receipts is put at Rs 4,479 crore, capital expenditure at Rs 4,479 crore.
The GHMC budget specified that revenue income is Rs 5,938. It is further specified that Rs 1,200 crore would be received from compensation to GHMC for debt servicing, Rs 1,907 crore from tax revenue, Rs 1,600 from town planning fee, Rs 200 crore from mutation fee.
The Corporation allocated Rs 1,550 crore for roads, bridges, Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme(CRMP), Rs 700 crore for land acquisition, Rs 874 crore for debt servicing, Rs 380 crore for solid waste management.
Ex-officio member and MLA Mohammed Majid Hussain said that GHMC budget is mostly dependent on assigned revenues and grants. As per the budget estimates, GHMC generate on its own were only Rs 3,646 crore.
In the question hour corporators irrespective of the parties raised questions related to Sanitation, play grounds and property tax. Almost all of them were dissatisfied with the GHMC officers as they had not done any work properly.
The corporators said that the GHMC officials should focus on collection of property tax as this is a major source of income for the GHMC. The corporators asked the mayor to re-implement the one-time settlement scheme for property tax payments and send proposals to the government through the commissioner.
After so many officers have made allegations against the officers, city Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi said, “officers who are here for years, those who do not want to work here and also those who are not working properly will be taken stringent action. They will be transferred to other departments. If majority corporators feel that an officer is not doing work properly, we will take action against them”. she also mentioned that two committees will be formed over the irregularities in the Advertising and Sanitation departments.
