Golf course to be set up in AP soon: Minister Durgesh

Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh, announced that steps would soon be taken to establish a golf course in the state with support from the central government. Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the Vizag Open Championship Tournament-2024, held at the East Point Golf Club in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, the minister congratulated the winner, Angad Cheema, and runner-up, Amanda Art, while presenting them with prize money.
“We are committed to promoting sports in the state, and establishing a golf course in Amaravati is part of that vision, led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu,” said Minister Durgesh. He emphasized the government’s efforts to develop Amaravati as a hub for sports infrastructure.
The ‘Vizag Open Golf 2024,’ a national-level tournament organized by the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), began on October 2 and concluded on Saturday. The event, hosted at the East Point Golf Club, attracted hundreds of professional golfers, athletes, and enthusiasts from across the country. The minister praised the organizers, noting that “events like this are essential to promote professional golfing in India and enhance the visibility of emerging talents.”
Minister Durgesh also underscored the importance of sportsmanship and the need for athletes to aim for success on national and international platforms. “Every athlete should strive to excel at both national and global levels. Sports should be an integral part of life, and winning is a natural aspect of healthy competition,” he remarked. He applauded the efforts of the Professional Golf Tour of India, stating, “PGTI has done a commendable job in organizing this prestigious event, showcasing the highest level of professional golf in India.”
The minister highlighted that East Point Golf Club (EPGC), which is accessible to people from all walks of life, has become a key venue for golf events in the region since the state’s bifurcation. “Such tournaments not only promote sports but also contribute significantly to the development of Visakhapatnam’s tourism sector,” he added.
Minister Durgesh concluded his address by expressing his appreciation for the organizers and acknowledging the tough competition faced by participants. “Those who succeed in this tournament will not only receive prize money but will also see their rankings improve, qualifying them for international competitions,” he explained. The closing ceremony of the event saw the presence of several dignitaries, including PGTI CEO Uttamsingh Mande, Director Vikas Singh, East Point Golf Club Secretary MSN Raju, Ramakrishna, and international players.
