Governor assures flood victims of all help

People in flood-affected areas poured out their woes to Tamilisai Soundararajan during her visit to colonies in Hanamkonda

Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Wednesday made a whirlwind tour of the flood-affected areas in Hanamkonda district.

The Governor visited Jawahar Nagar, NTR Nagar, etc., in the Hanamkonda district and interacted with the flood-affected people.

She heard the grievances of the flood-affected people and interact with them. Moved by their plight, the Governor assured them that she would take their grievances to the notice of the authorities concerned.

Braving the severe slushy and inundation conditions, Tamilisai Soundararajan visited the damaged houses and inundated paddy fields.

The Governor also distributed health kits, and groceries to the flood victims mobilised by the Indian Red Cross (IRCS).

Hundreds of the flood-affected people submitted representations to the Governor and the victims urged the Governor to interact with them all and listen to their woes.

The Governor moved by the fate of the flood victims, handed over some cash to the Red Cross Society Warangal and asked them to provide support for immediate needs.

She also emptied all the drinking water available in her vehicle and distributed it to the victims, when they complained of a lack of availability safe drinking water supply.

The Governor also interacted with the officials to know about the damage to the paddy fields and loss of property and livestock, and the number of people displaced or evacuated due to the inundation.

Relief teams from the IRCS accompanied the Governor to extend relief measures to the people in the inundated areas.

Referring to some common people who told her that they have been seeking reconstruction of a bridge which has now collapsed, she told reporters that the calamity would not have been so severe had they completed it. She appealed to the government to inspect the concerned areas and take steps towards addressing such issues. She also stressed taking long-term solutions to prevent recurring problems for people. “We cannot prevent the rain. But, we can prevent the damages due to rain, man-made damages due to rain. So, it is high time. People of Telangana cannot be suffering again and again”, he said.

Raj Bhavan senior officials accompanied the Governor during her visit to the flood-affected areas.
