On the occasion of ‘World Adivasi Day’ on August 9 (Wednesday), Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao extended his greetings to all tribal communities.
The CM said that the Government is committed to the welfare of tribals who depend on forests for their livelihood. The TS government stands as a role model for the country by implementing a slew of tribal development schemes, he said.
The CM said the government has been implementing welfare schemes for tribal development in the last nine years and had brought about a qualitative change in the lives of tribals.
The Chief Minister said the government fulfilled the dreams of famous tribal warrior Kumaram Bheem who fought with the slogan ‘Jal Jangal Zamin.’
The government made ‘Jal’ (water) a reality by providing potable drinking water in Gond habitations in the remote corners of forests and also to tribal tandas through Mission Bhagiratha. Irrigation facilities from the Kaleswaram Project, Mission Kakatiya and free electricity are also provided for agriculture in tribal habitations, he said.
The CM said that Telangana is the only state which is protecting the ‘Jungle’ and has set an example for the country by reviving the dwindling forest cover.
While protecting tribal rights on their ‘zamin,’ (lands), the CM said that the government distributed Podu land pattas to tribals.
Telangana is the third largest state in the country which has distributed over four lakh acres of Podu lands to 1.50 lakh tribals. The government also supported tribal farmers by providing Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima schemes to them.
Around 2,471 tribal habitations have been upgraded as Gram Panchayats and this has encouraged tribals to participate in the democratic political process by electing themselves as Sarpanches, realising the aspiration of tribals of ‘Mava Nate Mava Raj.’
The CM said that Telangana has also set an example for the country by providing 10 per cent reservations for tribals in education and jobs in proportion to their population.
The government constructed ‘self-respect’ (Atma Gaurava) buildings in the names of Kumram Bheem and Sant Sewalal at Banjara Hills in Hyderabad. The government is trying to provide high-quality Gurukula education and education abroad by spending crores for tribals.
Respecting tribal culture and traditions, the government is organizing tribal festivals like Sant Sewalal Jayanti, Kumarambhim Jayanti, Vardhantulu, Bhaurapur Jatara, Keslapur, Nagoba, Jangubai Jatara and Nacharam Jatara.
The CM said that the programmes undertaken by the government for the empowerment of tribals are yielding results and that they will be continued.
