Govt focussing on development of Guntur city: MLC Appireddy

YSRCP general secretary and MLC Lella Appireddy has said that the government is paying special attention to the comprehensive development of Guntur city and Rs 150 crore works are being carried out.

The MLC, along with MLA Maddali Giridhar, Mayor Kavati Manohar Naidu, and Municipal Commissioner Keerthi Chekuri, laid the foundation stone for the construction of CC drains and other works at the AT Agraharam main road here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Appireddy said that since the YSRCP-led government came to power, special focus has been laid on the development of Guntur city. He said that Rs 150 crore worth of development works are being carried out in the city.

“Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has promised to release funds for the construction of a Flyover Over Bridge at Shankar Vilas centre. The road widening works on the AT Agraharam road are being carried out expeditiously and steps were taken to complete the pending works also,” he added.

Mayor Manohar Naidu said that the widening of AT Agraharam road is a long pending dream of the residents but it was not taken up during the previous regime. The YSRCP government has taken up road widening work. The works of CC drains and central dividers with central lighting were taken up at a cost of Rs 12 crore on the AT Agraharam road, the mayor said.

“The widening works of the Peddapalakaluru, Kothapet Shiva Temple, Nandivelugu, Ramanama Kshetra, and AT Agraharam road, which have been pending in the city for years, are being fast-tracked”, he said. He asked the opposition parties to refrain from making false statements, stating that they are ready for an open discussion on the ongoing development works in the city.

Commissioner Keerthi Chekuri said that there is a need to widen the roads in accordance with the increasing traffic in the city day by day, and the road widening works were going on actively with the cooperation of the people in the city. She said that the removal of buildings affected by the widening of AT Agraharam Main Road has reached the final stage and would be completed soon.

She said that at present, construction of the CC drain is being taken up from the Chattagunta Poleramma temple to AT Agraharam on both sides at a cost of Rs 3.96 crore, and road construction work would also start soon. MLA Giridhar also spoke. Mirch yard chairman Chandragiri Yesuratnam and deputy mayor Sheik Sajela were among those who were present.
