Rich tributes paid to Potti Sriramulu

Former minister and YSRCP leader Sidda Raghava Rao and other leaders paid rich tributes to freedom fighter Potti Sriramulu whose supreme sacrifice led to the carving out of a separate Andhra Pradesh state for Telugu-speaking people.

On the occasion of the 70th death anniversary of Potti Sriramulu, YSRCP leaders led by Sidda Raghava Rao garlanded the statue of Sriramulu at the Bapuji market complex and paid tributes here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Sidda Raghava Rao said that Potti Sriramulu sacrificed his life for a separate statehood for Telugu-speaking people. The supreme sacrifice of Potti Sriramulu would exist in history forever. Nellore district was named after him by the government, he said.

The AP government has taken up a programme to convert Potti Sriramulu’s residence in Chennai into a memorial. A postal stamp was also released in his name, he added. The young generation should draw inspiration from Potti Sriramulu and all should remember his supreme sacrifice for a separate statehood for Telugu people, Raghava Rao said. Bapuji market complex president Koduri Satyanarayana, general secretary SRMS Srinivasa Rao, and vice president K Prabhakar Rao were among those who participated in the programme.

Meanwhile, in Guntur, MLC Lella Appiredddy, MLA Maddali Giridhar and Mayor Kavati Manohar Naidu paid tribute to Potti Sriramulu. They garlanded the statue of Potti Sriramulu at the Hindu college centre here on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, Lella Appireddy said that extending support to the formation of three capital cities is the real tribute to Potti Sriramulu.

The creation of three capital cities is indispensable for the equal development of three regions, he opined.

The YSRCP leaders recalled the supreme sacrifice of Potti Sriramulu and all should draw inspiration from him. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is going ahead with the decentralisation of administration, he claimed. Mayor Manohar Naidu and MLA Giridhar also spoke.
