Former minister T Harish Rao said that aspirants of District Selection Committee (DSC) and other unemployed individuals protested against their unmet demands. It is regrettable that the government has shown no concern for their plight. On Sunday, he wrote an open letter to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressing concern over Groups, DSC aspirants, and the unemployed in the State.
Harish Rao said that making provocative comments without empathetically addressing their issues is inappropriate for a Chief Minister. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka also held a press conference on Sunday, offering condolences but no concrete solutions to the students and the unemployed.
“The struggle of the unemployed began due to promises made during the election campaign that were broken by the Congress after coming to power. The unemployed continue to assert that these demands were promised in the Congress party’s election manifesto, alongside commitments made by Congress leaders such as Rahul Gandhi in libraries and coaching centres. Why has the government not sought a solution?”Harish Rao questioned.
“It is unfortunate that you, your ministers, and the entire administration are portraying students advocating for employment solutions as anti-social elements. Deploying police, erecting iron fences and making preemptive arrests in areas with high student concentrations, such as Osmania University, are undemocratic actions. Threatening, arresting, and attacking journalists who expose the plight of the unemployed is reprehensible,” the letter reads.
“Your allegation that political forces are behind the unemployee’s struggle is offensive. Making such excuses will not solve the issues faced by students and the unemployed. Hunger strikers are not appeased by mockery,” he wrote in the letter.
Harish Rao said that those who made promises are now in office, yet the unemployed are still on the streets. “When you were in the opposition, you responded to the same demands of the unemployed on every occasion. It seems you have forgotten that you also silently protested for the unemployed at that time.”
He demanded the CM to fulfill his promise to add 2,000 posts to Group II and 3,000 posts to Group III. Conduct a Mega DSC to fill all teacher vacancies as promised in the Congress party’s manifesto, he added.
