With summer temperatures climbing, Andhra Pradesh’s power utilities have ramped up efforts to provide uninterrupted electricity supply across the state. As daily demand continues to rise, the power sector is fully geared to manage the increased grid load and ensure 24×7 quality power to consumers, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand said on Monday. He was addressing a programme at Vidyut Soudha, marking the birth anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar.
Vijayanand underscored the state’s commitment to delivering reliable power, even in remote rural areas. He noted that cost-effective electricity is being supplied to domestic consumers and industries, while also safeguarding the welfare of the farming community, which receives nine hours of free electricity daily under the ‘Uchita Vyavasaya Vidyut Pathakam’.
According to the AP State Load Dispatch Centre, electricity consumption peaked at 256.8 million units (MU) on 28 March 2025—the highest recorded so far this year. Between January and March 2025, total energy demand met stood at 20,498 MU, slightly up from 20,475 MU in the same period last year. In just the first 12 days of April, demand touched 2,801 MU, with projections suggesting it may exceed 260 MU per day in the coming weeks. Utilities are on high alert and taking proactive measures to ensure uninterrupted supply.
Vijayanand also outlined several welfare-oriented schemes under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar. These include subsidised power for aquaculture, free electricity for SC/ST households, and concessions for sectors such as handlooms, horticulture, and goldsmiths.
Paying tribute to Dr Ambedkar, the Chief Secretary said the power utilities are committed to his vision by implementing inclusive schemes that promote equity and empowerment.
The event was attended by senior officials including APTRANSCO JMD Kirthi Chekuri and APGENCO Director M. Sujaya Kumar, who reiterated their resolve to support the state’s development with a stable power supply.
