Govt to expand KCR nutrition kits across state with Rs 277 cr Program is set to reach 6.84 lakh women, each kit costs Rs 2000

The Telangana Health Department is set to expand the distribution of the KCR Nutrition Kits scheme across all states, as part of the upcoming decennial celebrations of Telangana. The Health Minister, Harish Rao, on Tuesday conducted a video conference with District Collectors and District Medical Officers, ensuring arrangements for the immediate commencement of the distribution with Rs 277 crore.

Minister Harish Rao said that the KCR Nutrition Kits program aims to benefit 6.84 lakh women across the state during the 2023-24 period.  “Designed in conjunction with initiatives such as four ANC checkups, Amma Odi vehicles, and Mata Shishu Care Centers (MCH), this visionary scheme reflects Chief Minister KCR’s commitment to the well-being of pregnant women. The existing KCR kits scheme, which has already contributed to a significant reduction in the maternal mortality rate, positioning Telangana at the forefront of national progress in this critical area,” he said.

The programme aims to reduce anemia and increase hemoglobin percentage in pregnant women by providing essential nutrients. It has already been successfully implemented in nine anemic districts, and now a total of 13.08 lakh kits will be distributed through 1046 centers to 6.84 lakh pregnant women in 33 districts across the state.

Each kit is worth two thousand rupees, and the total estimated cost is Rs. 277 crores. The kit includes 1 kg nutrition mix powder, 1 kg dates, 3 bottles of iron syrup, 500 gm ghee, cup, 200 gm Palli patti, and a plastic basket.

Minister Harish Rao also instructed the District Collectors to coordinate with public representatives and expedite the opening of Palle and Basti dawakhanas sanctioned by the government. Construction and repair works of sub-centres that have already been approved should also be accelerated to ensure enhanced accessibility and quality healthcare for all.

During the video conference, Health Secretary Rizvi, Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Shweta Mahanty, heads of departments, District Collectors, and Medical Officers from all districts participated.
