Health Minister Harish Rao said that the government would thoroughly examine the opinion expressed at the meeting and submit an affidavit to the High Court, informing it of the decision. Once the High Court grants permission, construction of a new building for the OGH will commence.
A review meeting was held at the Secretariat, where public representatives unanimously supported the construction of a new building for the Osmania Government Hospital. Attended by government officials and public representatives, the meeting focused on addressing the pressing medical requirements of the people, even if it meant demolishing existing buildings.
He said the construction of the new Osmania General Hospital building is expected to commence soon in accordance with the final HC judgement.
Harish highlighted the government’s unwavering commitment to the healthcare sector. In line with Chief Minister KCR’s vision, initiatives such as the expansion of the four Teaching Institutions of Medical Sciences (TIMs), the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), and the construction of a super speciality Maternal and Child Health Centres (MCHs) have already been taken.
Expressing the government’s sincerity in constructing a new facility for Osmania General Hospital, Harish recalled Chief Minister KCR’s visit to the hospital in 2015 when he ordered the construction of a modern building. However, the process faced a setback when the High Court granted a stay order due to objections against demolishing the existing building.
An expert committee from the architecture department of IIT Hyderabad appointed by the High Court supported the need for a new building by declaring that the current building does not meet the functional requirements of a hospital.
After the recent court ruling, a meeting was held with public representatives to gather their opinion. Harish expressed satisfaction as all public representatives unanimously agreed to the construction of a new building.
The review meeting was attended by Ministers Mahmood Ali and Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi, Members of Legislative Council (MLCs) Prabhakar Rao, Vani Devi, Rahmat Beg, and Hasan Effendi, as well as Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) Akbaruddin, Dana Nagender, Gopinath, Zafar Hussain and Kausar Moinuddin.
Health Secretary Rizvi, Chief Minister’s Office Special Duty (CM OSD) Gangadhar, TSMSIDC Chairman Errolla Srinivas, ENC Ganapathy Reddy, OGH Superintendent Nagendra and other officials were also present.
