Granules India, AIG Hospitals extend breast cancer screening

Granules India Ltd and Hyderabad AIG Hospitals have expanded their ‘Breast Health Express’, a mobile breast cancer screening and awareness unit to serve rural areas in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district. This initiative, in collaboration with the Asian Medical Foundation and UC Breast Foundation, aims to make breast cancer prevention accessible to all women, regardless of their socio-economic status.
The announcement was made at a press conference in Gagillapur village on Tuesday, where the mobile unit’s advanced facilities for early breast cancer detection and awareness were presented.
Dr T Raghunath Swamy, District Medical & Health Officer, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and Shambipur Krishna, Chairperson of Dundigal Municipal Council, highlighted the programme’s goal to bring screening services to women across the district.
Executive Director of Granules India Ltd, Uma Chigurupati emphasised the programme’s importance stating, “By bringing screening to rural areas, we are breaking down healthcare barriers and raising awareness about breast health.”
Meanwhile, Consultant Breast Oncologist at AIG and Founder of UC Breast Foundation, Dr Pragnya Chigurupati noted the rising number of breast cancer cases, especially among younger women. She emphasised the programme’s role in offering education on early detection, self-examination and regular check-ups.
Dr Swamy welcomed the initiative, stressing the impact of public-private collaboration on rural healthcare. The mobile unit, equipped with mammography and ultrasound technology, will conduct screening camps across the district. Local leaders showed strong support for the initiative.
