Industries Minister KT Rama Rao said that be it Saif or Sanjay or anyone else, we’ll not let go anyone and ensure Dr Preethi gets justice.
“Every issue is getting politicised. Dr Preethi died unfortunately due to fights in college and ragging. She died in distress. Even that is being politicised. Everyone felt sad and our leaders Satyavathi Rathod, MLC Kavitha, Dayakar Rao and Shankar Naik visited the family. My heartfelt condolences to Dr Preethi’s family. People might use this issue for politicking. We will stand by the family through the government and the party. Whoever has done this, whether it is Saif or Sanjay or anyone we will not let them off and will ensure that they are punished,” KTR said.
Preethi, a first year MD student in the Department of Anaesthesia at the Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) in Warangal, succumbed at a hospital in Hyderabad on Sunday, five days after she allegedly took a lethal injection. The last rites of the 26-year-old tribal doctor were performed at Girni Thanda in Jangaon district on Monday.
The family of medical student Dharavathi Preethi who committed suicide due to alleged harassment by her senior at the Kakatiya Medical College said that it was not a suicide but a murder and demanded the death penalty for the guilty.
Preethi’s family demanded that the authorities should reveal what happened to her on February 21 night when she was on duty at the MGM Hospital in Warangal.
Her father Narendra said that Preethi did not commit suicide but was murdered. Declaring that someone gave the lethal injection to his daughter he said police must probe the incident from this angle.
Narendra, an Assistant Sub-Inspector in the Railway Protection Force said that his daughter was not a coward to end her life. He also demanded that a probe by a sitting judge should be conducted after suspending the head of the Anaesthesia department of the Kakatiya Medical College (KMC). Preethi’s sister Puja said the guilty should be immediately executed. “He should be executed so that no other woman faces this,” she said.
Leaders of some political parties, student groups and tribal organisations attended the funeral. Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) leader Manda Krishna Madiga was among those present.
Preethi’s sister said that senior students troubling juniors is common in colleges, but they never thought that the matter would take such a serious turn. Her sister, she said, used to stand up to aggression and was not like others who strike compromises if seniors trouble them.
