After all the buzz about conducting workshops in Gujarat and playing a role in the elections there, the latest direction of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has left TRS cadres with uncertainty again over the party’s national aspirations.
TRS sources said that hardly anything was mentioned about campaigning in other state elections during the recent party meeting.“The CM said that all sitting MLAs should be in their constituencies during the next 10 months. The CM will undertake district visits.TRS leaders were asked to engage with people in their constituencies and conduct Aatmeeya Sammelanams. There are state elections in HP, Gujarat and Karnataka in the next 10 months. So our role in these elections is definitely uncertain,” a TRS leader said.
TRS Working President KT Rama Rao had said that the BRS will expand in Maharashtra and Karnataka and its target will be the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.“It is a race against time and any direct entry will cause confusion in non-native lands. In Telangana, the TRS or the BRS won’t matter as evident from the Munugode result. But in other states, we will have to go by the name BRS.
We can’t afford to campaign as TRS and then expect people to understand our name change,” a TRS source said. As a national party, the BRS hopes to contest in 100 LS constituencies to begin with, including in Maharashtra and Karnataka which borders Telangana.
KTR had earlier said the party president will take a call on contesting elections in other states. It was only on November 8 that the TRS gave public notice in some newspapers regarding its name change to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and invited objections from the public if any. The comments will be closed on November 9 if there are no objections but if there are objections it may take more time.
The ECI is expected to examine objections as that is mandatory before approving a party’s name change. Sources said that if we go by the timeline of events, the BRS won’t play a significant direct role in the elections in other states.
