Social Welfare Minister Merugu Nagarjuna has said that the State government will implement a system of presenting gold, silver and bronze medals to the students who excel in studies and sports in the State SC Gurukuls. It has been decided to give these medals to the students from January, along with the titles ‘Academic Star’ and ‘All Rounder’.

The minister said that the medals were being introduced to develop competitive spirit among the Gurukul students and improve their skills. He said that the medals would be given to the students studying in Classes 5 to 8 on the basis of the marks they obtain in the regular examinations, and to the students of Classes 9 to 12 on the basis of their marks in the weekend examinations. Two gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals for each class will be presented to the students by their class teachers, for academics and sports.

Minister Nagarjuna added that the students who win the medals must wear them on their uniforms. He said that 48 academic medals and another 48 all-rounder medals would be awarded to each Gurukul and these medals would be transferred to those who score the highest marks next week. He further said that they hoped the move increased the competitive spirit among the students. From January 3, the medals will be distributed to the students of all Gurukuls.
