Managing Director (MD) of Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML),  NVS Reddy, and his team visited Delhi Airport Metro facilities on Saturday to study the facilities and operations. Senior Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials received the HAML team at the T-3 Airport terminal and showed them around the underground metro station located on the airport premises.

The team inspected the facilities and operations related to the transfer of baggage on the airport side, which is checked-in at two of the city metro stations and transferred to the airport.

After inspecting the check-in facility on the city side at New Delhi station, the team travelled by metro train to study the unique RFID tagging system on each container. Through this system, the movement of the containers from the city metro station to the airport is tracked through a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, ensuring secure and timely transfer of passengers’ bags to the airport.

The Delhi airport metro is a 23 km line, 16 km underground and 7 km elevated, with eight stations connecting Delhi airport with New Delhi railway and metro stations, covering the distance in just 19 minutes at an average speed of about 65 kmph.

The city check-in facilities are presently available at Shivaji Park station and New Delhi metro stations, where air passengers have to check in their baggage at least two hours before the scheduled flight departure time. Once checked in, the passengers can comfortably reach the airport by metro train and only undergo the security check for boarding their respective flights.

Apart from the ongoing works of Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) that is developing high-speed rail connectivity to different towns and cities around Delhi, the team also visited the maintenance depot and other facilities of the airport metro. The layouts of depots and stations, maintenance facilities for metro coaches, and property development at the depots and stations were also studied.

After the visit,  NVS Reddy and his team had detailed discussions with DMRC MD,  Vikas Kumar, and National Capital Region Transport Company (NCRTC) MD,VK Singh, along with their teams of senior engineers, to share mutual learnings and experiences. The visit is expected to help improve the operations and facilities of Hyderabad Airport Metro and enhance the overall passenger experience.
