Trees felled at KPHB for road widening; activist concerned

Must read

A number of trees were felled on KPHB Road on Sunday, reportedly for road-widening raising concerns among activists.

Speaking of the issue, environmental activist Vinay Vangala said, “I witnessed the trees being felled and it’s apparently being done for road-widening. I spoke to the deputy director of the forest department who sent his team on the spot for inspection.”

Expressing concern over the issue, the activist said, “Since the government has initiated the Haritha Haram programme for increasing forest cover, it should have translocated the trees to a place where there are less in number.” “It is disturbing to see the trees being cut down. The major issue is that it takes a lot of time for them to grow and when they are brought down, it’s hard to replace them,” he added.

Vangala further said, “If the government is not interested in translocating the trees, it should allow the NGOs which are ready to help protect the trees, to translocate them. However, such actions make us angry.”
