Handloom expo in US: Minister Savitha meets Chicago team

Minister for BC, EWS, Handloom and Khadi, S Savitha, met representatives from Chicago on Monday to discuss opportunities for promoting Andhra Pradesh’s handloom sector in the United States. The delegation invited her to participate in the upcoming GSA Global Millets Expo, scheduled for April in Chicago, organised by Purdue University and the GSA organisation.
During the meeting, Chicago government representative La Shawn K Ford formally extended an invitation to the minister. Discussions centred on expanding marketing avenues for handloom products in the US, with the representatives assuring support in organising handloom expos across multiple states. They also expressed willingness to provide training in handloom design to Andhra Pradesh artisans under Purdue University’s guidance.
Minister Savitha welcomed the initiative and stated that she would bring the proposal to the attention of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Minister Nara Lokesh. She expressed gratitude for the offer of design training, which could enhance the skills of the state’s weavers.
The meeting was attended by Dr Vijay Prabhakar, Dr Rajeev, Dr Mohammed Taj Mul Hussain, Vishwabharathi, K Krishnamurthy, Tirunagari Jyotsna, and others.
