Former minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader T Harish Rao on Sunday appealed to farmers not to sell their produce below the minimum support price (MSP).
Harish Rao on Sunday visited a procurement centre at Pedda Koduru village in the district and the farmers poured out their woes. A woman farmer Rangavva said the farmers have been waiting for the last 15 days with their harvest at the procurement centre.
Harish Rao spoke to the Civil Supplies District Manager and urged him to speed up the procurement. He explained to the officials that the farmers have been waiting for long to sell their produce. The harvested paddy would get wet if it rained. He also spoke to the Additional Collector and Revenue Divisional Officer to help the farmers sell their produce.
He sharply criticised the Congress government for failing to pay attention to the problems being faced by farmers. The motors fitted to the pump sets in farms burnt out due to fluctuations in power supply.
Later, speaking to the media in Medak, Harish Rao recalled that the late Indira Gandhi, when she contested from Medak promised to make it a district. But she failed to deliver on her promise. BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao after becoming chief minister, created Medak district. It was the KCR government which brought rail connectivity to the Medak district. The KCR government ensured that the water for irrigation reached the tail-end areas.
Harish Rao ridiculed the government for going back on its promise to waive farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh.
