Having Dandruff? Look out for the early sign leading to hair fall

Must read

It’s a common unspoken and universally acknowledged rule that one of the most basic etiquettes to being properly groomed is to have well-kept hair. When even a strand of your hair is out-of-place, it can make your whole appearance look unkempt or like you haven’t put in the effort.

A person’s self-esteem is also directly linked with their appearance, of which, their hair is often the largest chunk. And on the days your hair doesn’t cooperate or isn’t manageable, you’d notice that your confidence diminishes too. So much so, that a bad hair day is just synonymous with having a bad day!

One of the biggest reasons for unmanageable hair is Dandruff. As unproblematic as it may seem at first, it is one of the leading causes of severe hair fall, not too far in the future.
Most of the time, people don’t start looking for treatments to stop hair fall until they start to experience it. However, hair loss always comes with tell-tale indicators that are important to recognise in order to avoid it in the first place. Dandruff is one such early sign, leading to mild or severe hair fall in the future. Dandruff may cause a person to scratch their scalp so often and so vigorously that they will either harm their scalp or cause it to inflame.  Inflammation of the hair follicles on a regular basis can cause scarring and further damage, leading to hair fall.

But fret not, Dr. Aparna Santhanam (MD, DNB) – Dermatologist shares with us ways you can recognise dandruff, and figure out how to control it and ultimately, get rid of it:

Dandruff caused by various skin problems

Skin conditions which include but not limited to biotin deficiency, psoriasis, bacterial and fungal infections, can cause dandruff and if not treated in time, in the long run will lead to hair loss.

Scepticism regarding washing hair frequently Some people who are experiencing hair fall may avoid washing their hair out of concern that they may lose more hair, which could cause more dandruff. You need to continue washing your hair regularly but opt for a mild cleaning solution which isn’t heavy on chemicals. Nourishing your hair regularly with a coconut-based hair oil, before every wash will help nourish your hair from its roots.

Allergies

If you notice that on consuming some particular food or even wearing a particular fabric, your skin reacts or your scalp gets itchy and sore, you must stop the consumption of that particular product. Else, if you’re not sure of the root cause, you can try the elimination method till you have found it or even undergo some allergy testing.

Dry skin

One of the most typical causes of dandruff is dry skin. Sadly, if this is the cause of your dandruff, you can notice that it worsens during the winters and also during the change of seasons. Since other areas of your body are probably dry as well, it is simpler to determine if dry skin is the root of your dandruff, as the skin becomes drier in the colder months. If you are confused, consult a dermatologist regarding the same. The solution? You already know the answer: moisturise! This same principle works with hair where you need to nourish and moisturize your hair from its roots.

Now that you know what signs to watch out for, the treatment is the easy part. Nothing surpasses coconut-based hair oils when it comes to preventing dandruff and in turn hair fall. Coconut oil penetrates deep into your scalp as compared to any other hair oil, helping nourish your hair from its roots. It also helps moisturise your scalp, getting rid of any dryness that leads to dandruff. Dr. Aparna further recommends that you choose a hair oil with a coconut base that is enriched with rich natural Ayurvedic ingredients like amla, heena, methi, kadi patta, kalonji, tulsi, etc.

When combined with a coconut oil foundation, all these potent Ayurvedic elements will not only help strengthen your hair from the inside out but also offer you a long-term remedy for dandruff and the potential hair loss in the future.
