President of the State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Somu Veerraju, has expressed his concerns in a letter addressed to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday. Veerraju noted that the rice distribution vehicles in the state lacked signboards indicating that the rice being distributed to the people was sponsored by the Central government. He demanded that the signboards be installed on these distribution vehicles to clearly highlight the Central government’s sponsorship. In the event of this requirement not being met, Veerraju urged the immediate withdrawal of the vehicles.
Veerraju emphasised the need for the State government to adjust its approach and adhere to the guidelines outlined by the Central government while implementing its schemes. Pointing out that the Prime Minister had already instructed state governments to display free rice boards, Veerraju raised the question of why the Andhra Pradesh government had not taken any action thus far in his open letter.
According to the guidelines of the Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Annayojana, a board should be installed to inform the public that the free rice is being provided to the poor by the central government. However, Veerraju highlighted that in Andhra Pradesh, the public remains unaware that the rice they receive is distributed through the Prime Minister’s ‘Garib Kalyana Annayojana’ scheme. Consequently, he urged immediate compliance with the Central Food Public Distribution Department’s directive to display boards on rice distribution vehicles without delay.
