House is incomplete without a book room: Guv Tamilisai

Must read

A book can change your life; reading can make a student leader. The construction of the house is incomplete without a book room because this room will guide us with skill, said Governor Tamilisai Soundarjan, while launching the Read India-Lead India campaign on Monday at Raj Bhavan.

“I have a habit of reading for an hour and my day is incomplete without reading. This gives me immense energy to perform my duties and I appeal to everybody to continue reading. Each book is a treasure and a moral strength, internally the message read motivates you,” she added.

In her message to the students, she said one has to read autobiographies, particularly that of Dr Sarvepalli Radha Krishnan. He wrote a lot of books on Philosophy. But he was not interested in the subject at all. Due to family conditions he borrowed books from his relatives and wrote on Philosophy. In any time, reading refines us and the lost habit of writing and reading must be encouraged, she added.

This campaign was conducted in association with the National Book Trust of New Delhi.

She added that her father had presented her with books of Swami Vivekananda and legendary Tamil poet Bharatiyar.

“Those books have inspired me a lot. They instilled a sense of confidence in me. I still keep that habit of reading at least for an hour a day. Every home must have a book room,” she said.

The Governor stated that reading books helps one in gaining knowledge and added that knowledge can be used as a power to bring reforms in the society.

As part of the event, the Governor presented Exam Warriors, a book penned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to all the students participating in the meeting.
