District Collector M Venugopal Reddy has said that human rights violations have come down due to the efficient implementation of the laws. A programme was organised here on Saturday by Good Shepherd Convent and Child Rights Advocacy Foundation jointly on the occasion of International Human Day.

Speaking on the occasion, Collector Venugopal Reddy emphasised the need for the protection of human rights. He said that awareness needs to be created among people on human rights.

The Collector said that due to the implementation of laws of the Central and State governments, human rights violations have been reduced in the country, but human rights violations are taking place in some places including in socially backward areas, castes, children, and women.

He said that the State government is working hard to provide education to everyone so that only educated people can have a full understanding of human rights and protect them.

Collector Venugopal Reddy said that it is possible to protect women’s rights by providing women’s empowerment. He explained that the benefits of welfare schemes including the housing scheme are being given to women in order to make them economically developed.

“In order to place the country in a good place in the human development index, the responsibility of protecting human rights lies on all. Through such programs, people should become aware and participate in the protection of human rights by providing their full assistance in the eradication of child marriage, begging, and child labour in society,” he stated.

The Secretary of the District Legal Service Organization, Ratnakumar said that in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly of 48 countries declared December 10th every year as International Human Rights Day with the unanimous resolution of 48 countries to ensure that every citizen has the right to live freely, with equality, and with dignity.

“As part of the protection of human rights in India, a special law was brought into force in 1993. In case of human rights violations, the victims can complain to the National Human Rights Commission at the national level, the State Human Rights Commission at the state level, and the District Human Rights Court at the district level,” he informed.

District Women and Child Development Project Director Manoranjan and District Health Officer Dr. Sumaya Khan were among those who were present.
