Adil Hussain, famous for playing Sridevi’s husband in Gauri Shinde’s English Vinglish, now depicts Janhvi Kapoor’s father in Sudhanshu Saria’s suspenseful film Ulajh. In a special interview, Adil reminisced about his time working with the late Sridevi and described how seamlessly Janhvi saw him as her father, based on the strong on-screen bond he shared with her mother.
On being asked if they spoke about the late actress, Adil said, “It’s hard for me to bring her up. My heart aches; I can’t even digest or understand that she’s not there. I can’t even imagine the pain Janhvi probably still feels. My mother just passed away this month and she was 95 years old. Imagining a young mother passing away, I didn’t have the guts to bring it up. But we spoke about how we met on the set of English Vinglish.”
When asked if star kids have it easy in the world of showbiz, Adil said that it’s also a huge burden to carry. “It’s a huge burden and, at the same time, maybe that initially, because of the familiarity of the world you have grown up in and have been around, is probably a bit easier than for those who come from the fringes. But you have to prove yourself. People will see through you, whether you are talented or doing a good job. You cannot cheat creativity; it shows on camera. The camera is the most ruthless thing on the planet. It can kill you instantly or make you amazing. Truthfulness and organic quality are judged by the camera, which catches your vulnerability, fear and incapability. You cannot cheat on that. If she is successful and loved by people, it’s because she has the qualities to be loved, or anyone else for that matter.”
