The makers had finally released the trailer on Monday in Hyderabad. The trailer shows the beauty and pain of the titular character, based on playwright Kalidasa’s work. Dressed in a white attire with her dark tresses braided in flowers, Samantha looked pretty as a picture in the trailer of Shaakuntalam. The video in a gist gives away all the key points of the plot, right from Shakuntala’s introduction, to her courtship with the King Dushyant, and the curse of rishi Durvasa which made him forget his love for the ‘apsara’-like Shakuntala. Towards the end, the makers even give a glimpse of Bharat, her son, something which they probably should have left for the big screen.
At the trailer launch, both Samantha and director Gunasekhar turned emotional, but also very grateful. Speaking at the trailer launch, Samantha said, “I have faced many struggles in life, but one thing that has remained constant is how much I love cinema and how much cinema loves me back. I think that with Shaakuntalam, this love will only continue to grow.”
Director Gunasekhar also turned emotional by remembering the struggle for making Shaakuntalam. Gunasekhar said, “My daughter, Neelima wanted to be a producer after returning back from the USA and after listening to Shaakuntalam’s story, she stuck with it. Shaakuntalam has three heroes and Dev Mohan will be the main lead. But in reality, Dil Raju is the main hero of the project. Dil Raju’s words made me confident and made me do what I want.” While talking about Dil Raju’s support, Guna Sekhar turned emotional. Shaakuntalam was made with 3 years of hard work. The trailer has created a huge buzz. The movie will be released on February 17, worldwide in five languages.
The film, produced and directed by Gunasekhar, will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. It will hit the screens worldwide on February 17. This project marks Samantha’s maiden collaboration with Gunasekhar.
