Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said he had rejected a request of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to join the NDA, after the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections in 2020, citing his “deeds.”

Speaking at a rally here, Modi said before the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls, Rao used to come to the airport to receive him with fanfare and show a lot of respect.

“For the first time, I am going to reveal a secret. I have come today to tell 100 per cent truth. When Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls were held, the BJP won 40-45 seats (48). Nobody got a majority. KCR needed support.

You must have seen before the Hyderabad Corporation polls, he used to come to airport with an army to welcome me. He used to felicitate me with big garlands. He used to respect me a lot,” Modi said. Spitting fire at Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that KCR came to him and had said that he would hand over the reins of the Telangana government to KTR and requested him to bless BRS working president KT Rama Rao. Modi said that he had strongly told KCR that India is a democracy and not a monarchy.

“KCR honoured me with a shawl and a bouquet. I told KCR that leaders who get the blessings of the people will rule. I asked KCR, ‘Is this a monarchy? Are you a king to make your prince the CM?’ I told KCR about his corruption. That was the last day. After that KCR has no guts to meet me when I come to Telangana,” Modi said.
Addressing the Induru Jana Garjana on Tuesday at the Nizamabad Girraj College Grounds, Modi said, “I would like to reveal a secret which I had not mentioned earlier. KCR’s attitude changed totally after the GHMC elections. KCR met me after the GHMC elections while visiting New Delhi.
He showered affection on me. I had not seen so much affection in him earlier.
That is not in his personality. KCR praised me saying that the nation is rushing forward under my leadership. KCR told me that he has done a lot and will hand over the reins of the Telangana government to KTR and asked me to bless KTR.
However, I told KCR strongly that India is not a monarchy. Leaders who have the blessings of the people will become rulers. I made it clear that the BJP will not enter into an alliance with the BRS. KCR asked me to support the BRS in the GHMC Mayor election.
I made it clear that the BJP will sit in the opposition but will not support the BRS. I also made it clear that I would not betray the people of Telangana. I did not agree to allow the BRS to join the NDA although KCR requested that.”
