Ideology-based student politics missing in versities: Revanth

Must read

Declaring that ideology-based student politics has disappeared, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that it is imperative for students to be active in politics in universities.
The CM said that George Reddy and Vidyasagar Rao strictly followed their ideologies during their student politics days at Osmania University. There is a need to encourage student politics, he added.
“The absence of ideology in politics is the main reason for increasing defections. Leaders are changing parties for posts. Students who follow their party ideologies will be loyal to their political organisations forever. Revival of ideology-based student politics is the need of the hour,” the CM said.
He said he had decided to bring back the glory of universities soon after assuming office.
“University students played an important role during the Telangana Movement. The active role played by students in politics led to the formation of Telangana state,” he said.
Addressing the gathering after releasing the autobiography of former Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao on Sunday here, the CM said that it was a delightful moment.
“I had an opportunity to meet leaders who became my role models during my political career spanning 35 years on a single platform today. Admirers of Vidyasagar Rao including myself fondly called senior most leaders as Sagar ji,” he said.
The CM said that Sagar ji served as the Governor of two states and upheld Telangana’s honour. It is commendable that Vidyasagar Rao spent five decades in active politics without facing a single allegation and stands as an ideal for Telangana, he said.
The CM said that those who want to excel in politics should read the book UNIKA.
Stating that he has no differences with anyone, the CM made it clear that he is ready to meet everyone to develop Telangana and for that, he would seek everybody’s cooperation.
The Chief Minister said that he had already requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cooperate in developing Telangana and make it a one trillion US Dollar economy state.

“The Prime Minister is cooperating with the DMK to develop Metro Rail. Although the Congress is ruling Karnataka, Modi approved the Metro Rail project in Bengaluru. Telangana has now fallen to ninth place in ranking. Cutting across party lines, my appeal to Union Minister Sanjay and BRS leader Vinod Rao is to cooperate with us for the development of Telangana. We should work together for Telangana,” he said.

“All Tamil Nadu politicians fought together irrespective of their party affiliations for their language and for preserving Jallikattu. 39 Tamil Nadu MPs took oath in the Lok Sabha in their mother language Tamil. I hope that the Union Cabinet will approve the Hyderabad Metro Rail project at its next meeting,” the CM said.

The opposition’s responsibility is to point out the government’s shortcomings. However, we are losing the spirit of democracy, he said.

“Legislators of the Communist parties and the BJP used to give advice when the ruling party and the opposition locked horns in the Assembly. My government respects the democratic spirit. Not a single instance of expelling opposition members from the Assembly was reported in the last 13 months,” the CM said.

He said the experience of Vidyasagar Rao was very important on the Godavari water issue. The government will seek Sagar ji’s cooperation for land acquisition near Tummidi Hatti, the CM added.

Speaking on the occasion, Vidyasagar Rao praised the Chief Minister and said that the CM’s HYDRAA idea was a good one.

“The government should cleanse the Musi River and make Hyderabad beautiful. The government should also implement the Koneru Ranga Rao report and protect the land rights of tribals. People would cooperate with the programmes taken up by the CM. Poverty can be eradicated with the CM’s Skill Development programme,” he added.
