IGBC stresses green practices for better future

The Confederation of Indian Industry’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), Hyderabad, celebrated World Earth Day 2025 on Tuesday with a special ‘Green Crusaders Felicitation Programme,” honouring leaders in the green building movement.

The Green Crusaders included top organisations like Blue Star, Godrej, DCB Bank, HDFC Bank, Infosys, Domino’s, Wipro, Balrampur Chini, Indian Oil, LTI Mindtree and IIM Shillong.

This year’s Earth Day theme, ‘Our Power, Our Planet,’ focused on clean energy and sustainable growth. C Shekhar Reddy, National Vice-Chairman of IGBC, delivered the keynote, stressing the importance of buildings in achieving the goal of tripling clean energy by 2030.

He said green buildings can save power, generate energy and protect the planet. IGBC has registered over 142 new projects across 14 sectors, covering 875 million sq. ft., raising the total to 15,800+ projects and 13.56 billion sq. ft.

Shekhar Reddy highlighted the importance of Net Zero buildings, which produce as much energy and water as they use and manage waste sustainably.

He also mentioned government support, with 13 states offering incentives and faster approvals for IGBC-rated projects.

He urged all stakeholders developers, architects, engineers and officials to adopt green practices for a better future. He noted that it’s not just about saving energy, but securing a healthy planet for future generations.
