The MLC elections scheduled for March 13 are changing political equations in Andhra Pradesh.
While in Telangana unexpected political developments are taking place, in Andhra Pradesh the main opposition party, the TDP, which has a strong hope of coming to power in the Assembly elections was given a big shock by the BJP.
In Telangana, the relations between the BRS and the MIM were disturbed and showed on the floor of the Assembly. There is an opinion that the Congress and the MIM may renew ties in the coming days. But the BRS is likely to use the MLC elections to restore relations with MIM.
In Telangana, MLC elections were announced for two seats. One is from Hyderabad local body constituency and the other is from the Teachers’ constituency.
The BRS is planning to support the MIM candidate from the Hyderabad local body constituency to restore relations with the MIM. In the Teachers’ constituency, the BRS is likely to support the PRTU candidate.
In another interesting development, the CPI has surprised everyone by joining TPCC President Revanth Reddy’s padayatra in the erstwhile Khammam district. The Left supported the BRS in the Munugode Assembly by-election and had also said that their relations will continue during the Assembly elections too.
But in Pinapaka in Khammam district, local CPI leaders joined TPCC President Revanth Reddy’s padayatra. It may be recalled that the Left had decided to go with the Congress at the national level to fight the BJP.
But Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is opposing the BJP and the Congress equally. This may change the mind of the Left to sail with the BRS during Assembly elections. If this happens the BRS may face some problems.
Meanwhile, in Andhra Pradesh MLC elections will be held for 13 seats. Of these, eight seats are from local bodies, three from graduates and two from teachers’ constituencies.
As the YSR Congress is enjoying the majority in local bodies there will be no problem in winning eight MLC seats from local bodies.
The main fight will be in the three graduate constituencies, two from Rayalaseema and one from the north coastal region. The YSR Congress is confident of winning these three seats.
But the north coastal graduate constituency is changing political equations as the BJP gave a shock to the TDP. All these days there were strong speculations that the TDP and the Jana Sena will have an alliance and that the Jana Sena will end its alliance with the BJP.
The TDP hoped that the Jana Sena will support their candidate in the north coastal MLC constituency. But surprisingly, the BJP and the Jana Sena announced their common candidate from this constituency, sitting BJP MLC PVN Madhav.
The BJP leadership said that the political alliance between the BJP and the Jana Sena will continue during Assembly elections too. If this happens it will be a big shock to the TDP and it may go it alone in the Assembly elections if the Left also decides to sail with the Congress.
