Telangana Health Minister T Harish Rao called for extensive spread of the Telemanas Mental Health helpline in the state to help people experiencing mental health issues. He said that the toll-free helpline number for Telemanas is 14416 and urged individuals to seek help when needed and emphasised that mental health care is an integral part of overall health care.
Minister Harish Rao conducted a comprehensive monthly review of health programmes, attended by several officials, including Health Secretary Rizvi, Family Welfare Commissioner Swetha Mahanty and DMHOs and Deputy DMHOs of all districts. The review covered various programmes, including maternal health, immunisation and non-communicable disease programmes.
During the meeting, the Minister announced an ambitious plan to propel the state to the forefront of all health indicators. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has allocated significant funding to the health department to support the government’s commitment to prioritising public healthcare.
Further, he reiterated that the government is committed to providing high-quality medical services to the people and addressed issues such as shortages of medicines, medical equipment and staff. He expressed determination to ascend to the top position and make progress in other parameters.
To enhance the reach and effectiveness of healthcare services, Minister Harish Rao proposed extending the operating hours of Basti clinics and directed the establishment of boards to inform the public about clinic timings and services offered. He stressed the importance of raising awareness about palliative services and the Arogya Mahila programme for comprehensive women’s healthcare.
The minister also issued directives to medical staff to conduct proper ANC check-ups and increase the number of deliveries in government hospitals, with a focus on normal deliveries.
DMHOs and Deputy DMHOs were instructed to address the concern of higher Cesarean section rates in private hospitals and implement measures to reduce them.
