In a heart-rending incident, the children of a 70-year-old woman refused to take her body home after she died on Saturday night at the Government Hospital here.
The children said that they felt deeply aggrieved by their mother’s refusal to give them Rs 1.5 lakh lying as a bank deposit to her two daughters. In fact, she has had three daughters, but one of them died long back.
She was identified as Kistavva, a resident of RB Nagar colony in the town. She also owned a house in the town. All her daughters live in the town only.
She had chosen one of her close relatives rather than her daughters as nominee for her properties. But, her daughters mounted pressure on her to give away her money lying in the bank as a deposit to the daughters.
Kistavva was admitted to the government hospital here on April 21. The hospital staff intimated her death to her daughters, but they did not come forward to claim the body. The hospital staff learnt that as the old woman did not give the money to her daughters they did not come forward to claim the body.
The hospital staff informed police and kept the body in the hospital mortuary.
