The Konaseema district police arrested a five-member notorious burglar gang and recovered Rs 70 lakh worth of booty, including gold jewellery and silver ornaments.
SP B Krishna Rao told the media on Tuesday that the burglars committed a major heist in the Venkateswara temple, located on the premises of KIMS hospital, here 20 days ago.
The police set up a Special Investigation Team to arrest the burglars. The SIT police team examined the CCTV footage identified the burglars and arrested them.
The police recovered gold jewellery, and silver ornaments worth over Rs 70 lakh from the burglars gang. The gang was involved in 37 burglaries and other offences in Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Guntur and Medak districts. The SP announced cash rewards to the police team which arrested the interstate burglars and recovered the booty.
