District Collector K Vetri Selvi has called upon people to come forward to protect the environment by cleaning the surroundings clean and tidy. A cycle rally was taken out here on Tuesday to create awareness on environmental protection.
The rally was flagged off by District Revenue Officer D Pushpamani and Collector Vetri Selvi and MLA Badeti Radhakrishnaiah were among those who took part in the cycle rally. The cycle rally began at the Alluri Sitarama Raju statue at Jute Mill Centre and ended at Sir CRR Engineering College after covering 3 km.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Collector Vetri Selvi said that the cycle rally was taken out to create environmental awareness among all the people.  She called upon the people to participate in the Swachhata Hi Seva programme and cooperate to make the district clean and tidy. The Collector made it clear that keeping the surroundings clean and tidy is a collective responsibility of all and public participation in the programme is very important.
The Collector noted that as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva programme, awareness about keeping the environment clean and tidy was created and health camps were set up. Medicines and other facilities required for sanitation programmes were also provided, she added. Collector Vetri Selvi highlighted that Eluru district had stood at the top in the State by completing 98 percent through the various events organized as part of the Swaccha Hi Seva programme, organized across the district.
MLA Badeti Radhakrishnaiah (Chanti) underlined the need of keep surroundings clean to protect health. In order to educate people to keep their surroundings clean and tidy, the cycle rally was taken out today, he stated.  
ZP CEO K Subba Rao said that so far garbage removal had been carried out at 795 units so far in the district. DRDA PD R Vijaya Raju, Municipal Commissioner N Bhanu Pratap DSDO Srinivasa Rao and animal husbandry JD G Nehru Babu were among those who were present. A large number of students from various educational institutions participated in the cycle rally.
